Pacific Southwest Conference (PSWC) is the competition in which Student Chapters of the American Society of Civil Engineers compete in a number of technical competitions. The competitions that are integrated into this conference provide an opportunity for Structural and Civil engineering students to get valuable hands-on experience that they cannot get in the classroom. The events range from surveying, environmental presentations, and Geo-technical construction to large scale projects such as Steel Bridge and Concrete Canoe. The project teams (Canoe and Bridge) spend the entire year designing and constructing their respective projects with the goal of placing at PSWC in order to qualify for national competitions. The smaller technical teams (Environmental, Geo-tech, Transportation etc.) prepare in the months approaching conference by researching their subjects, preparing presentations and research papers, and practicing their event (e.g Geo-tech must build a load bearing wall from sand). In addition to the fantastic opportunities to gain practical experience, PSWC provides an opportunity for students to showcase their abilities to potential employers who attend the job fair. Overall, this conference is an opportunity for students to supplement their education with essential experience that will prepare them for their future careers.
